A Qualified Teacher....

Jen started her teaching career in 2009 after qualifying with a 2:1 BEd Primary Exon degree. She spent three years teaching at a school in Oxfordshire before moving back to London. In 2012 she started a new drama department with a talented colleague at Hill House International School in Chelsea. They jointly wrote a bespoke drama curriculum including Primary literacy and Secondary drama techniques, created their own assessment criteria, and wrote and directed countless school productions. She also taught dance to hundreds of children who performed on Duke Of York Square every year at the school's annual Field Day. A Drama and Literacy specialist, Jen has offered her services in various capacities from private work to large state school projects. She more recently worked as an SEN teacher helping children who have dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, developing methods to help with working memory and structured development. Jen is based in North London and works in various parts of the city. She would be happy to hear from you if you think she can help your child or children.
Jen specialises in tutoring children between the ages of 5-11 in English, creative writing and Phonics. She can help with tasks such as tackling homework and spellings, to raising the attainment of story writing with your child. She specialised in the methods of Pie Corbett's visual story maps and story-telling methods, and will help to make a 1:1 writing session fun and creative when working with your child. She can also help with phonics catch-up, helping to plug the foundations at a pace that is right for your child. An hour's session will typically be split into four 15 minute tasks with a break to ensure attention is maintained and the session feels fresh. Jen is happy to talk with you about your child's needs to see if she can help.
Drama workshops
Jen has facilitated and run countless drama workshops for children ages 5-12. These workshops have lasted from one day to a whole week. Topics have included everything from the books of Roald Dahl and David Williams, to London-themed performance poetry and musical theatre mash-ups! The key to Jen's workshops is that they will always be inclusive. Jen doesn't believe in the traditional 'script to stage' style of drama, where some children are left with one line to say while others take centre stage. Using techniques such as physical theatre, mime and narration, with Jen's guidance, she will help use the children's ideas to collaborate on unique ideas and the children's own strengths to create a truly collaborative performance piece. Sometimes the workshops will be non-performance led to develop confidence, and sometimes parents will be invited to watch if they are able to. Workshops can happen as part of a children's party, at a hired venue or even in your home. Jen is happy to work with you to create a bespoke workshop around your children's interest.

Play in a Day

As part of a whole school project, Jen was invited into a Primary school in Mitcham to work with each year group on a  play in a day. This involved working with one year group in a day to create a play for parents to see at the end of the day based around the chosen topic of that year group. She worked with Years Six, Five, Four and Three at the end of their school term. Please enquire to see if Jen can help to facilitate a play in a day at your school.
Jen's first dance club won a trophy at Dance Challenge UK in 2011 and since then she has choreographed and facilitated dance workshops in and out of school. She has also led dance parties and helped create dances for school musicals and productions. Please enquire to see if Jen can help with a dance project.
