THE ENORMOUS ROOM

The Enormous Room from Stopgap Dance company is the first major show from the company since their inclusion in the new GCSE dance specification. Year 9 students who study dance are currently studying the 2014 production Artificial Things, timely and relevant as it is the only work that is wholly inclusive and choreographed by a woman.

A company that doesn't shy away from pushing boundaries and opening pathways for disabled and non-disabled dancers to work together through inclusive choreography, The Enormous Room is set to be a show that will shift you by the time you leave.

Dave’s wife Jackie has died, but he still sees her everywhere She is lying in his bed, sitting at the kitchen table and laughing with their daughter Sam. Dave has withdrawn into the living room unable to let his memories go, but going is all that Sam can think about....

Featuring disabled Dancer David Toole who performed a renowned solo at the Olympics in 2012 and featured in DV8's major dance feature The Cost of Living in 2004, Toole knows how to utilise his dramatic and dance ability to bring the character of Dave to life.

Also featuring Hannah Sampson, a young dancer with Down’s syndrome who has received 10 years of professional training with Stopgap Dance Company. The intricate interactions between the experienced David Toole and talented newcomer Sampson are set to intrigue. They are joined by non-disabled dancers Meritxell Checa, dancer and collaborator with celebrated French choreographer Philippe Decoufle and Amy Butler, the rehearsal director of Chotto Desh by Akram Khan, who take the roles of Jackie as Dave’s wife and Sam’s mother respectively.
